STING was not required for the induction of miR-24 by HSV1 (S2C Fig) and HSV1 infection in cells caused a reduction of STING expression (Fig 2A), an effect that was prevented by transfection of antimiR-24 prior to infection, confirming that miR-24, induced by the virus, was responsible for the observed reduction of cellular STING level and silencing of miR-24 prevented the reduction of STING. The gene discussed is STING1; the disease is infection.
