SMO and acute myeloid leukemia: It has been reported that inhibition of SMO by glasdegib can cause LSCs to re-enter the cell cycle (Sadarangani et al., 2015; Fukushima et al., 2016; Kakiuchi et al., 2017), and an ongoing clinical trial (phase III double-blind, BRIGHT AML 1019) investigates the combination of glasdegib with standard chemotherapy (Cortes et al., 2019) in patients with untreated AML.
