Use of data from TCGA has assisted in the discovery of new prognostic biomarkers for breast cancer, including (i) miRNAs [miR-574-3p and miR-660-5p (51), and miR-18a, miR-205, and miR-744 (52)], (ii) Piwi-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) and PIWI genes (53), (iii) RNA-protein complexes [tristetrapolin (TTP ZFP36) (54) and Musashi RNA-binding protein 2 (55)], and (iv) gene expressions of mutations [GATA3, NCOR1, CDH1, and ATM (56)]. The gene discussed is ATM; the disease is breast cancer.
