ADIPOQ (adiponectin, C1Q and collagen domain containing), which is expressed in adipose tissue exclusively, is centrally involved in the control of adipose metabolism and its dysregulation may lead to type 2 diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) (Renaldi et al., 2009; Ukkola and Santaniemi, 2002). This evidence concerns the gene ADIPOQ and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
