The importance of leptin genes and modulation of leptin action and protein expression in Ossabaw pigs were indicated in previous studies (Lee et al., 2009; McKenney et al., 2014; Neeb et al., 2010; Payne et al., 2010), providing stimulus for future obesity and disease studies on these genes. The gene discussed is LEP; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
