CCL2, a chemoattractant for monocytes, as well as IL-8, a chemoattractant for neutrophils, were also significantly increased within the first week in most patients (CCL2: 17.51, [95%CI, 11.04 to 110]; IL-8: 256.6, [95%CI, 46.19 to 1507] in pg/ml) suggesting that monocytes and neutrophils could be recruited locally during mild infection.
