Inflammatory response in children with MIS-C is characterized by an increase in levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), procalcitonin, troponins, brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), ferritin and cytokines, such as IL-1, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-17, IL-18, IFN-γ and TNF, associated with profound lymphopenia and neutrophilia [10,11,13,74,76,77]. The gene discussed is NPPB; the disease is lymphopenia.
