To assess the potential protective effect of CB1 blockade, long-term treatment of mice lacking low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptors (another murine model of atherosclerosis) with a CB1 antagonist/inverse agonist (SR141716, rimonabant), resulted in reduced atherosclerotic plaque formation, indicating that CB1 has an important role in plaque formation [69]. Here, CNR1 is linked to atherosclerosis.
