SOCS1 and listeriosis: A study by Ryan, Begley [110] which compared a SSI-1 harboring strain with its isogenic mutant reported that loss of SSI-1 significantly compromised L. monocytogenes’ ability to grow and survive in frankfurters, which have previously been implicated in outbreaks of listeriosis [113,114,115], as well as growth at 4- and 15-degrees C. These data, along with the absence of SSI-1 from the genomes of L. monocytogenes which are not commonly associated with foods, suggest that genes found in SSI-1 may be involved in the bacteriums’ ability to survive in food [116,117,118,119,120].
