PAX8 and thyroid gland papillary carcinoma: Furthermore, a detailed analysis of the VCP/p97 expression profile and clinical relevance in thyroid cancer, using the TCGA papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) dataset, revealed that (i) VCP/p97 was significantly elevated in patients with PTC, particularly patients with RET (rearranged during transfection) fusion, BRAF-mutant, or PAX8 (paired box gene 8) fusion; and (ii) higher levels of VCP/p97 expression correlated significantly with shorter disease-free survival and an increased risk of recurrence in individuals with PTC subjected to ablative RAI treatment [103].
