Consequently, sepsis-associated tissue inflammation was assessed by measuring levels of an activated form of NF-kB p65 (p-NF-κB p65) in the liver, kidney, and heart, and by measuring the liver level of haptoglobin (Hp), as one of the major acute-phase proteins with anti-inflammatory and antioxidative properties whose expression is regulated by p-NF-κB p65.
