Consistent with a role for targeting methylation, in vitro studies using non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells show that DNA methyltransferase inhibition (DNMTi) suppresses the expression of Fanconi anemia-related genes, leading to decreased RAD51 foci formation and heightened sensitivity to irradiation [157]. This evidence concerns the gene RAD51 and non-small cell lung carcinoma.
