Recent works reported that FGF19 enhanced mitochondrial function through an increase in the expression of mitochondrial biogenesis regulators, i.e., PGC1α, via the AMPK/ NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2)/HO-1 pathway, thus, relieving the oxidative stress on the heart and improved diabetic cardiomyopathy [91]. This evidence concerns the gene NFE2L2 and diabetic cardiomyopathy.
