The triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (TREM2) has also been implicated in the modulation of microglial phagocytosis, with some studies suggesting that TREM2 function, and hence phagocytotic function, may be impaired in instances of neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s disease [55,56,57]. The gene discussed is TREM2; the disease is early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
