The use of 500 mg of paromomycin, 3 to 4 times daily for a minimum of 14 days showed an exceptional cure rate of cryptosporidiosis, particularly in HIV-infected adults with CD4 >200 cells/uL (Bissuel et al., 1994; Fichtenbaum et al., 1993), and not in severely compromised HIV patients (Flanigan et al., 1996; Hewitt et al., 2000; Smith et al., 1998; White et al., 1994). The gene discussed is CD4; the disease is cryptosporidiosis.
