While RAS signalling and receptor ACE2 have been previously implicated in the pathogenesis of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), ACE2 receptor, in coordination with other proteins, also facilitates the invasion of SARS‐CoV‐2 in alveolar epithelial cells, alveolar macrophage, and pulmonary endothelium.16 This evidence concerns the gene ACE2 and acute respiratory distress syndrome.
