Lower galectin-3 levels were associated with euglycaemic state, whereas higher galectin-3 was related to a higher prevalence of prediabetes (increase of approximately 50% from the first to the third tertile) and T2DM (almost tripled prevalence from the first to the third tertile) (Supplemental Fig. 1). Here, LGALS3 is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
