In the current athlete case series the following outcomes were observed: (1) The athlete that presented the greatest intestinal epithelial injury (i.e., Δ plasma I-FABP concentration: 7,296 pg/ml, Athlete-6) was found to have an absent OCTT response indicative of suspected exercise-associated gastroparesis and/or paralytic (sub-paralytic) ileus.
