The evaluation of changes in expression of the same genes in humans with type 2 diabetes or prediabetes compared with non-diabetics show consistently upregulated BHLHA15 (MIST1), a potent endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress-inducible transcriptional regulator upregulated by beta cell Ca2+ overload [32]. This evidence concerns the gene BHLHA15 and prediabetes syndrome.
