In colorectal cancer, for example, NOTCH1 copy number gain is an important indicator of disease progression and is positively correlated with poor prognosis (Arcaroli et al., 2016), and mice with sporadic, low-frequency loss of NOTCH1 protein expression develop widespread vascular tumors (Liu et al., 2011), highlighting roles for this receptor in both neoplastic transformation as well as tumor suppression, depending on the biological context. This evidence concerns the gene NOTCH1 and colorectal cancer.
