PIEZO1 and pulmonary edema: Further studies showed that increasing pulmonary vascular hydrostatic pressure in mice, either using aortic constriction or elevating the left atrial pressure, resulted in severe pulmonary edema after disruption of the pulmonary vascular barrier in wild-type mice, whereas specifically knocking out Piezo1 in pulmonary endothelial cells significantly reduced pulmonary vascular permeability and the extent of pulmonary edema in mice.
