The main genes whose loss of function are related to ovarian cancer are: BRCA1, BRCA2, BARD1, BRIP1, CHEK2, MRE11A, MSH6, MLH1, MSH2, NBN, PALB2, RAD50, RAD51C and TP53, and the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes are the most frequently involved, with 40% and 23%, respectively, of cases of hereditary ovarian, tubal and peritoneal cancer.19 The gene discussed is BRCA2; the disease is ovarian carcinoma.
