PRKAA1 and infection: Indeed, resumption of AMPK expression after infection of the mammalian host (Hunter and Davies, 2018) may serve to re-establish glycogen stores now that the parasite has penetrated a glucose-replete environment, as little glycogen is transported from molluscan host to mammalian host by the cercaria (Horemans et al., 1992; Skelly et al., 1993) and schistosomula do not contain detectable glycogen (data not shown).
