Since the cell densities of BrdU+/+Olig2+/+ doublets were similar between control (1.91 ± 0.67 cells/106 μm3) and BE mice (1.89 ± 0.29 cells/106 μm3), the proportional differences of Nestin expression would indicate a BE-induced shift in the cell state toward an undifferentiated state of OPCs. This evidence concerns the gene OLIG2 and Barrett esophagus.
