Initial studies with the first‐generation TSPO tracer (R)‐[11C]PK11195 showed higher tracer uptake in certain brain regions (midbrain, pons, cortex) of PD patients compared to healthy controls, which corroborated the hypothesis of neuroinflammation taking place in the PD‐affected brain (Gerhard et al., 2006; Ouchi et al., 2005). The gene discussed is TSPO; the disease is Parkinson disease.
