A number of genes associated with gout and HUA were identified by genome-wide association studies (Köttgen et al., 2013; Liu et al., 2020), and most were related to the urate-transport system, such as ATP-binding cassette subfamily G member 2 (ABCG2), glucose transporter type 9 (GLUT9, also known as SLC2A9), and urate anion transporter 1 (URAT1, also known as SLC22A12). Here, SLC22A12 is linked to gout.
