In another study of children who were cared for in institutions at an early age20, the time spent in institutions was negatively associated with the methylation level of FKBP5. Recently, changes in DNA methylation of FKBP5 associated with adverse childhood events have been observed in various stress-related psychiatric disorders, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)21, depression22, psychosis23, and borderline personality disorder24. Here, FKBP5 is linked to psychiatric disorder.
