To investigate if SARS-CoV-2 infection is associated with induction of senescence, we compared p16INK4a expression in lungs from 10 patients who had died from SARS-CoV-2 (age 76 ±13 years; mean ± SD; 3 females, 7 males) to 6 controls (age 78 ± 19.5 years; 2 females, 4 males) who did not have COPD, asthma, or other pulmonary diseases (Mayo Clinic Tissue Registry; Mayo Clinic IRB #21-001392) as shown in Supplementary Tables 1 and 2. The gene discussed is CDKN2A; the disease is asthma.
