Since CAFs secreted higher TGFβ1 level than tumor cells or NAFs (Figure 1E) and TGFβ1 increased CAFs’ migration (Karagiannis et al., 2014), we inferred one reason for this was that SCC/CAF secreted higher amount of TGFβ1 which increased fibroblast activation, and this enabled CAFs to establish in the tumor core.
