The AIM2-inflammasome can further promote either IL-18 and IL-1β production or gasdermin-D (GSDMD)-mediated pyroptosis.3–6 In addition, the inflammasome-independent function of AIM2 is also linked to the regulation of intestinal cell proliferation, apoptosis, and metastasis in colon cancer.7 However, whether AIM2 exerts inflammasome-independent effects in immune cells, especially in adaptive immune cells, is unclear. The gene discussed is AIM2; the disease is colonic neoplasm.
