The levels of keratinocyte-derived chemokine (KC; CXCL1), a potent chemoattractant for PMN to the sites of infection, were significantly higher in the BAL fluid in mice with liver crush injury compared with naive mice and mice with infection (Figure 3I), which may explain in part the enhanced migration of PMN into the lung in mice subjected to trauma before bacterial inoculation.
