First, cotransfection of M2 and MARCH8 or transfection of MARCH8, followed by infection with IAV strain WSN (H1N1), was shown to modulate expression of M2 in cell lysates and at the cell surface (33), whereas inducible MARCH8 did not alter the cell surface M2 on NP+ cells following infection with H3N2 (Fig. 6) or with H1N1 (data not shown) viruses.
