CFH inhibits the alternative complement pathway and formation of C3 convertase by binding to C3b, and promotes C3b degradation as a cofactor for factor I. Lin et al. found that accompanying neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder in the pSS patients is associated with lower CFH levels,24 which is consistent with the significant downregulation of CFH observed in the ESS model group in our study. This evidence concerns the gene CFH and neuromyelitis optica.
