ALK gene rearrangements are seen in 1.9-6.8% cases of NSCLCs (6). The most common ALK gene rearrangement in NSCLC is paracentric inversion on the short arm of chromosome 2, juxtaposing the 5’ end of EML4 (echinoderm microtubule associated protein-like 4) gene to the 3’ end of the ALK gene (10). Here, EML4 is linked to non-small cell lung carcinoma.
