Overall, the serum FGF21 concentration was significantly higher in CVD patients than in those without CVDs [standard mean difference (SMD) = 0.58, 95% CI: 0.33–0.84, p < 0.001], especially for CAD (SMD = 0.75, 95% CI: 0.42–1.09, p < 0.001) and hypertension (SMD = 0.48, 95% CI: 0.37–0.59, p < 0.001) (Figure 2).
