ACE2 and COVID-19: The angiotensin II responsible for vasoconstriction, high blood pressure, and vascular remodeling (Tikellis and Thomas, 2012) increase significantly in COVID-19 patients, and it has been suggested that binding of SARS-CoV-2 to ACE2 causes a release of excessive angiotensin II through the renin–angiotensin system to increase heart loading, cardiomyocyte hypertrophy, and high blood pressure (Li M. et al., 2020).
