As described in section A Model for Changes in MRS Measured Glutamate, GABA, and Glutamine Levels During the Progression of ALS the most common idiopathic forms of ALS are associated with overproduction of ROS due to mutations in superoxide dismutase (SOD) which result in overproduction of the ROS hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The gene discussed is SOD1; the disease is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
