In another study, terpene-rich (e.g., α-pinene, β-pinene, limonene, linalool, and caryophyllene) essential oil from lemon (Citrus limoni) peel exhibited properties including metal chelating capacity, inhibition of lipid peroxidation, and AChE and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) activities in rat brain homogenates (106); therapeutic properties with relevance to neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease. This evidence concerns the gene BCHE and Alzheimer disease.
