An interesting observation was the identification of recurrent fusions that had not previously been reported in lung cancer, but were found in other cancer types, such as the VCL-ALK fusion in epithelioid fibrous histiocytoma35 and renal cell carcinoma36, the FN1-ALK fusion in ovarian cancer37 and gastrointestinal leiomyomas38, the NPM1-ALK fusion in anaplastic large cell lymphoma39, the VSTM2A-EGFR fusion in glioblastomas40, and the ERBB2-IKZF3 fusion in breast cancer41. This evidence concerns the gene ALK and lung carcinoma.
