BRCA2 and Friedreich ataxia: Our findings together with two family study cases that reported biallelic BRCA2 patients with a less severe FA phenotype and early onset breast and/or colon cancer susceptibility29,30 are relevant for the interpretation of variants with unknown significance (VUS) in BRCA2. In the evaluation of the potential pathogenicity of a variant in BRCA2, it is considered that its co-occurrence in trans with a clearly pathogenic variant indicates its benign character31.
