In the U.S. population without viral hepatitis, PNPLA3 I148M and higher NAFLD liver fat (metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, fasting serum insulin, ALT, and AST were used as criteria) and fibrosis scores (age, BMI, impaired fasting glucose, diabetes, platelet count, and albumin were used as criteria) are associated with increased liver disease mortality (Table 1) [59].
