Whereas most CNVs associated with schizophrenia encompass multiple genes, the deletion of chromosome 2p16.3 specifically affects the NRXN1 gene encoding the synaptic cell adhesion molecule, neurexin-1, which is involved in the regulation of synaptic development and in synaptic transmission [129,130,131]. The gene discussed is NRXN1; the disease is schizophrenia.
