More importantly, the results of combination therapy trials of erlotinib and gemcitabine for advanced pancreatic cancer patients [57,58], as well as lapatinib and capecitabine for human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive advanced breast cancer patients [59,60] demonstrated the advantages of combination therapy of kinase inhibitors with conventional chemotherapeutic drugs over monotherapy.
