Nanotube‐mediated transfer of neural degeneration disease‐causing proteins in vitro (Symons & Rusk, 2003) has contributed to the prevailing idea that a similar mechanism could be involved in the connectome‐associated route of disease‐causing protein spread in vivo (Ridley, 2006), including the inter‐neuronal spread of misfolded alpha synuclein in Parkinson’s disease and multiple system atrophy and misfolded tau protein in Alzheimer’s disease and frontotemporal dementia (Uemura et al, 2020). The gene discussed is YWHAQ; the disease is early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
