In vitro studies in cancer cell lines have identified SP-1 and AP-2α as activators of the Kiss1 promoter (Mitchell et al., 2006; Mitchell et al., 2007), while in vivo only TTF1 and CUX1-p200 in the human (Mueller et al., 2011), and Tbx3 and Crtc1 in the mouse (Sanz et al., 2015; Altarejos et al., 2008), have been identified as potential enhancers of Kiss1 transcription despite the large number of potential TF binding sites that have been described in the Kiss1 promoter (Goto et al., 2015).
