Following infection, most animals had a transient increase in C-reactive protein, ALT and AST, peaking on day 2, and a transient increase of several cytokines and chemokines, including IL-6, MCP-1, Eotaxin, I-TAC, IL-1RA and IP-10, generally peaking on day 1 or 2 (Fig. S3–5).
