FASN is the terminal enzyme in de novo lipogenesis; therefore, it is reasonable to hypothesize that reduced KAT8 activity might increase lipogenesis and hence promote obesity, a phenotype that would be in line with the obesity phenotype we describe here for knockdown of the C. elegans ortholog mys-1 and the negative correlation between KAT-8 expression and obesity in humans. This evidence concerns the gene KAT8 and obesity disorder.
