Gasdermin E (GSDME), of which mutant form was long considered to relate to hereditary hearing impairment, was named human deafness autosomal dominant 5 (DFNA5) on gene level, and GSDME expression is significantly lower in ER-positive breast carcinomas than in ER-negative breast carcinomas (Thompson and Weigel, 1998). Here, GSDME is linked to deafness.
