Stimulation of dendritic cells has important implications for the initiation of adaptive immune responses and is associated with phagocytosis and processing of tumor antigens, migration towards the draining lymph nodes, upregulation of MHC as well as costimulatory molecules (CD80, CD86), all contributing to an efficient presentation of engulfed tumor antigens to T cells (11) (Figure 1). The gene discussed is CD80; the disease is neoplasm.
