In order to further clarify the relationship between SFRP5 and cardiovascular disease risk factors, a large population-based cohort study was conducted and demonstrated that the increase of serum SFRP5 is negatively correlated with various risk factors of T2DM and cardiovascular disease, indicating that SFRP5, as a new biomarker, needs further investigation as a mediator in the prevention of cardiac metabolic diseases (24, 164). Here, SFRP5 is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
