The empagliflozin/metformin combined therapy exhibited greater protective and ameliorative effects, compared to their monotherapies, on ulcerative colitis by inducing AMPK-induced suppression of mTOR/NLRP3 inflammasome axis resulting in the inhibition of downstream activation of caspase-1 and other inflammatory cytokines. This evidence concerns the gene CASP1 and ulcerative colitis.
